The Nakuru County Government has disbursed Ksh. 14,095,337 in bursaries to 2,996 students from Subukia Sub-County under Tranche 2 of the 2024/2025 Financial Year. The event took place at Maseno Market Grounds (Ward Administrator’s Office), Waseges Ward, and was presided over by County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Hon. Zippora Wambui, and her counterpart for Roads, Eng. Michael Kamau, who represented H.E. Governor Susan Kihika.
Hon. Wambui reiterated Governor Kihika’s focus on expanding access to education for needy students across Nakuru County. She noted that the County Bursary Fund allocation has been increasing each financial year to meet the growing demand. According to Hon. Wambui, the bursary program is designed to support students in accessing, remaining in, and completing their education, as well as transitioning to higher levels of learning.
She highlighted that the support targets learners at all levels, including secondary schools, vocational training centers, special needs institutions, colleges, and universities. The bursary program is also aimed at addressing the challenges posed by poverty and other socio-economic barriers to education, ensuring that no student drops out due to lack of school fees.
Beneficiaries and their families acknowledged the impact of the program, thanking Governor Kihika and Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) for working together to ensure a wide reach. They emphasized that the bursary funds will help cover tuition and related expenses, easing the financial burden on households.
The event brought together various stakeholders from both the county executive and legislative arms, signaling continued collaboration in implementing education support programs. Present at the event were the Chairman of the Education Committee in the County Assembly of Nakuru, Hon. Peter Maina; Area MCA Elijah Murage (Waseges); MCA George Talaam (Kabazi); MCA Isabella Makori (Subukia); Sub-County Administrator; Ward Administrators; Bursary Committee Members; Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESHA) representatives; and Governor’s Coordinators.
The County Government has committed to disbursing bursary funds across all sub-counties in a transparent and structured manner, with clear beneficiary lists and verification processes. The initiative forms part of the county’s broader education agenda, which includes infrastructure development in schools, provision of learning materials, and strengthening vocational training to equip youth with employable skills.
By prioritizing bursary allocations and other educational support initiatives, Nakuru County continues to invest in its human capital as a key driver for socio-economic growth.
