The construction of the Kinungi Market in Naivasha East Ward is now at 98 percent completion. The project, being undertaken by the Nakuru County Government, is expected to provide a structured trading environment for over 3,000 traders upon completion.

During a site inspection, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Trade, Stephen Kuria, confirmed that the market will soon be ready for use. He stated that the project aligns with the county’s plan to enhance trading conditions for small-scale traders by providing proper infrastructure. He also commended the contractor for adhering to the construction timeline.

The construction work includes the installation of working tops, concrete flooring, roofing, and concrete walls, along with painting. Once complete, the facility will provide traders with a designated space for business operations, ensuring they are not affected by harsh weather conditions. The structured setup will also improve hygiene and safety, enhancing the overall market experience for both traders and customers.

Governor Susan Kihika’s administration has been focusing on improving business infrastructure across Nakuru County as part of her commitment to creating a favorable environment for economic growth. The construction of the Kinungi Market is one of the projects aimed at fulfilling her manifesto, which prioritizes economic empowerment and support for small businesses.

The market will help reduce congestion in informal trading spaces by providing a well-organized area where traders can conduct their businesses more effectively. This will also improve order in the trading sector and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.

Additionally, the facility is expected to boost economic activities in the area by attracting more buyers and sellers. Traders will have access to essential amenities, which will make it easier for them to store and display their goods. This initiative supports local enterprises and contributes to the overall economic development of Naivasha East Ward and the larger Nakuru County.

Present during the inspection were Chief Officer for Trade Benard Sang, Naivasha East Ward MCA Stanley Karanja, and other county officials. Their visit underscored the county government’s commitment to ensuring timely completion and operationalization of the market.

Governor Kihika’s administration continues to invest in market infrastructure to support traders and small businesses, demonstrating its commitment to delivering on campaign promises. The completion of the Kinungi Market will mark another step toward achieving a well-structured trading environment that benefits residents and promotes sustainable economic growth.
