A total of 3,196 students in Kuresoi South Sub-County have benefited from the Nakuru County Bursary Fund, second tranche for the Financial Year 2025/2026. The bursary, amounting to Ksh. 16,617,895, was distributed to students across all levels of education—primary, secondary, tertiary, and university.
The launch and distribution of bursary cheques was overseen by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Hon. Zipporah Wambui, who represented H.E. Governor Susan Kihika during the event. Hon. Wambui reaffirmed the County Government’s ongoing commitment to providing educational support to students from needy backgrounds and emphasized the importance of equal access to education.
Governor Susan Kihika’s administration has set aside over Ksh. 440 million in the current financial year for bursaries to support vulnerable learners across Nakuru County. The bursary program aims to reduce the financial burden on parents and guardians and ensure continuous learning for students who might otherwise be forced to drop out due to lack of fees.
Hon. Wambui noted that the county is implementing several education-focused programs to further support learners. These include the School Feeding Program to improve school attendance and nutrition, distribution of age-appropriate furniture and books to create a better learning environment, and provision of clean drinking water to promote hygiene in schools. The County Government is also working on road connectivity projects, which will improve access to learning institutions, especially in remote areas.
Present during the distribution were the Chairperson of the Education Committee at the County Assembly of Nakuru, Hon. Peter Maina, Majority Leader Hon. Langat, County Bursary Committee Chair Mr. Philip Ngo’k, Chief of Staff Dr. Peter Ketyenya, Chief Officer Mr. John Koech, Director of Political Affairs Mr. Joseph, representatives from KESHA and NGAO, Sub-County and Ward Administrators, parents, teachers, and students.
The County Government of Nakuru continues to prioritize education in its development agenda, with a focus on ensuring inclusivity and sustainability. The bursary program is part of a broader effort to empower communities through access to education.
