Nakuru County is set to take the global stage as it pledges unwavering support for the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally scheduled from June 22 to 25 in Naivasha. This commitment reflects the county’s determination to showcase its rich heritage and diverse tourism offerings to the world.
Scheduled as the seventh round in the WRC calendar by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) World Motor Sport Council, the Safari Rally promises not only thrilling motorsport but also serves as a strategic platform to position Nakuru County as a prime tourism destination. Stephen Kuria, the Executive for Trade, Tourism, and Cooperatives, emphasized the county’s dedication to ensuring the success of the event.
Governor Susan Kihika’s commitment echoes through Kuria’s statement, highlighting the county government’s full support for an event that goes beyond the race tracks. Kuria emphasized, “The county government is fully behind this event, which will not only sell various tourism destination areas but also promote tourism stakeholders.”
Looking beyond the WRC, Nakuru County is gearing up to host the Love Festival in September in Naivasha. Kuria revealed that the hospitality industry stakeholders are strategically leveraging this event to attract thousands of international and local visitors, providing a significant boost to the industry.
Tourism Chief Officer Rosemary Kimani sees the Love Festival as more than a one-time event. She anticipates a lasting impact, envisioning it as a potential catalyst for the initiation of a thriving travel and tourism industry in the region.
During a stakeholders’ meeting ahead of the preparation for these two upcoming events, Kuria assured Nakuru residents of the county’s commitment to supporting the WRC and expressed readiness to collaborate with stakeholders to ensure a world-class event. The meeting served as a platform to align efforts, coordinate logistics, and build anticipation for the dual tourism extravaganza.
As Nakuru County positions itself at the intersection of motorsport excitement and cultural celebration, the world awaits an unforgettable experience that goes beyond the adrenaline of the Safari Rally and extends into the vibrant festivities of the Love Festival, marking a milestone in the county’s journey toward becoming a global tourism hotspot.
