Senator Susan Kihika has called on the youth and women in the county to take advantage of the various funds available from the government for economic empowerment.

While addressing residents at Nyayo Gardens in Nakuru Town the Senator said the loans if well utilized could go a long way in dealing with the rampant unemployment in the country.

“Women and youth no longer have an excuse not to be productively engaged. They just need to join together, come up with viable projects and apply for the available funds from the government,” she said.

This was during a sensitization program that brought together groups from various sub-counties. A total of Kshs. 35 million was issued as loans to various groups with some getting as high as Ksh. 750,000.

Officers from the Youth Enterprise Development Fund, Uwezo Fund and Women Enterprise Fund were on site where they trained on the various loans available and the requirements to access them.

Senator Kihika, however, decried the lack of information about the available funds promising to work extra hard to get the message to the grassroots.

“I believe a lot of sensitization is needed especially at the grassroots because a lot of qualified people are not accessing these interest-free loans. I will in future be visiting far-flung areas within the county to sensitize residents about this,” promised the senator.
