In an effort to promote a healthy living environment and curb the menace of clogged drains, the Department of Infrastructure in Nakuru East Sub- County has launched a drain cleaning exercise. This initiative, in line with H.E Governor Susan Kihika’s manifesto on infrastructure development, aims to ensure the smooth flow of run-off water and sewage effluents, ultimately enhancing the overall well-being of the community.
The focal point of this proactive endeavor is the area adjacent to Kingdom Seekers in Nakuru East Sub- County. The significance of regular drain cleaning cannot be overstated, as it serves to mitigate the adverse effects of siltation, preventing the formation of clogs caused by accumulated materials in the drainage system.
Collaboration with key stakeholders, such as the Kenya National Highways Authority (Kenha), underscores the commitment of the Department of Infrastructure to address specific areas of concern. Notable locations on the agenda for improvement include the Flyover Tunnel and Nyahururu Interchange at Section 58, KFA Roundabout, and blocked drainages in the prime mattresses area.
To execute this ambitious plan, a backhoe will be deployed to critical drainage points, including Shadrack Kimalel drainage, Mashambani Stage drain, and Government Road drainage. Desilting activities will be carried out diligently to ensure the flow of water, preventing blockages and fostering a more resilient drainage infrastructure.
The commitment to addressing drainage issues extends beyond Nakuru East, reaching into Nakuru West, specifically targeting areas like Kiamunyi, Giotto, and Eveready. By taking a holistic approach, Governor Susan Kihika’s vision for infrastructure development becomes tangible, reaching every corner of Nakuru County.
Residents play a crucial role in the success of this initiative. An appeal is made to refrain from dumping waste materials and raw sewage into stormwater drainages. This responsible behavior is vital in overcoming the challenges posed by clogged drains, requiring a collective effort from all stakeholders involved.
