Nakuru County is gearing up to distribute 85,000 avocado seedlings to local farmers this year, a strategic move to boost avocado production in the region. This initiative aligns with Governor Susan Kihika’s vision for the Agriculture sub-sector.
During the launch of the Kog Avocado Seedlings Center in Kiptagich ward, Kuresoi South Sub-County, the County Executive for Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Veterinary Services Hon. Leonard Bor highlighted the significant growth of the avocado sector in Nakuru County. He attributed this growth to empowered cooperative movements, a reliable market, and ongoing farmer training programs.
The Kog Avocado Seedlings Center has received certification from the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KePHIS) to offer a variety of fruit seedlings. This certification makes it the sole authorized seed nursery in Kuresoi South, ensuring access to high-quality seedlings.
The launch event was attended by several dignitaries, including Dr David Kimaiyo, former Inspector General of Police, Kibet Kurgat, CO Cooperative, Dr Francis Sang, former head of CID, former DIG Bunei, Hon. Richard Langat, Hon. Leah Serem, Hon. Jane Simita, as well as representatives from AFA and KePHIS, and a multitude of farmers.
