Nakuru County Executive Committee Member for Education, Zipporah Ngugi, accompanied by Chief Officer Rosemary Kimani and Director for Vocational Training David Mwangi, visited Nakuru Vocational Training Centre. Nakuru VTC is one of the leading technical training institutions in the county.
The delegation was received and taken around the institution by Principal Muli. They also met and interacted with the teaching staff and the 435 students who are pursuing various practical skills to enhance their future employment prospects.
During the visit, CEC Ngugi also inspected the ongoing construction of a new Resource Centre at the institution that will enrich the learning experience for students. She praised the facility’s comprehensive course offerings, which include fashion design, plumbing, ICT, motor vehicle maintenance, catering, electrical installation and masonry.
The county government of Nakuru fully covers tuition fees and learning materials for all students, ensuring affordable access to vocational training. Each student is entitled to an annual capitation of Kshs 30,000, leaving them only responsible for their personal welfare costs.
CEC Ngugi also encouraged students to apply for the county bursary, stressing the County Government’s commitment to ensuring that financial limitations do not hinder any student from accessing these transformative opportunities.
During her address, Ngugi emphasized the importance of vocational education in preparing Nakuru’s youth for the competitive job market. She applauded both students and instructors for their dedication and encouraged them to continue working hard toward securing brighter futures.
The visit reaffirms Nakuru County’s commitment under Governor Susan Kihika’s leadership to equipping young people with essential skills and empowering them to contribute to the county’s socio-economic development.
