The County Government of Nakuru is expanding opportunities for young people through practical support for self-employment, reaffirming Governor Susan Kihika’s pledge to create jobs and promote livelihoods. In Nakuru Town West Sub-county, youth groups received car wash machines to help them establish income-generating ventures, a step aimed at reducing unemployment and encouraging entrepreneurship at the community level.

The initiative was spearheaded during a youth empowerment program led by area MP Hon. Samuel Arama, where Governor Kihika engaged directly with residents at the Milimani Offices. The distribution of the car wash machines forms part of the county’s broader strategy to provide tools and resources that enable the youth to transition into sustainable economic activities rather than depend solely on formal employment.

Governor Kihika emphasized that empowering young people is central to her administration’s urban development and economic growth agenda. She said such interventions complement the national government’s ongoing programs designed to create jobs and stimulate local economies.

Acknowledging the national context, Governor Kihika commended President William Ruto for steering development programs that resonate with the county’s vision. These include the job opportunities created under the Affordable Housing Programme, the construction of modern markets to support traders, and the planned dualling of the Rironi–Mau Summit Highway. She noted that these projects have direct benefits for Nakuru residents, linking infrastructure growth with economic participation.

The Governor called on residents to continue supporting the national government’s transformative programs, noting that their successful implementation contributes to both local and national progress. She stressed that her administration remains committed to aligning county priorities with the national agenda for maximum impact.

Leaders present at the event included MPs Irene Njoki (Bahati) and David Gikaria (Nakuru Town East), alongside local Members of County Assembly and other officials. Their presence highlighted the collaborative approach between different levels of leadership in advancing youth empowerment and infrastructure development.

Governor Kihika concluded by reaffirming her commitment to accelerating urban development initiatives across Nakuru County. She highlighted that her administration is focusing on creating opportunities for residents, expanding access to resources, and ensuring that urban growth translates into better livelihoods for households across all sub-counties.

Through such programs, the county government continues to demonstrate a practical pathway toward fulfilling its promises of job creation and community empowerment.
