Governor Susan Kihika has taken significant steps to improve early childhood education in Nakuru County with the distribution of 5,000 chairs and 17,000 books to Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) centers. This initiative is designed to create a more conducive learning environment for young learners across the county.

County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Zipporah Wambui, led the distribution exercise in Molo Sub-County. The event commenced at the Molo Social Hall, where 500 chairs and over 1,000 books of English Language Activities for Pre-Primary 1 (PP1) and Pre-Primary 2 (PP2) were handed over to teachers from various ECDE centers. The provision of these learning materials aligns with the county government’s commitment to strengthening the education sector at the foundational level.

In addition to supporting ECDE centers, the county government has also disbursed the first tranche of this year’s bursary funds to assist students in continuing their education. Governor Kihika has further prioritized the capitation of students in Vocational Training Centers (VTCs), with each student receiving Ksh30,000. This financial support aims to ease the burden on parents and ensure that more youth acquire technical skills essential for employment and entrepreneurship. Students have also been encouraged to apply for bursaries to help cover additional boarding costs.

Teachers present at the distribution event expressed their appreciation for the county’s ongoing support, particularly the Uji Programme, a school feeding initiative introduced by the county government. The program has significantly increased student enrollment from 58,000 to 65,000, demonstrating its impact on retaining young learners in schools and improving their concentration levels.

During her visit to Molo, the CECM for Education made an impromptu stop at the Molo Vocational Training Center, where she encouraged students to embrace the training opportunities available. She emphasized the county’s commitment to equipping youth with the necessary skills to compete in the job market and contribute to economic growth.

Also present at the event were Hon. Joseph Nga’ng’a Ngware, Molo Ward MCA, Lang’at Bernard, MCA Marioshoni Ward, Molo Sub-County Administrator David Kinaiya, and other county officials. Their presence highlighted the collaborative effort between county leaders to advance education and development in Nakuru.

Governor Kihika’s administration continues to fulfill its promises by investing in education infrastructure and support programs. The distribution of learning materials, bursary disbursement, and VTC capitation all reflect her commitment to ensuring quality education and skills development for the people of Nakuru County. The county government remains focused on implementing policies that improve access to education and empower the youth for a brighter future.
