Governor Susan Kihika today joined staff, students, and parents of Mercy Njeri Secondary School for the official launch of a new school bus, in an event hosted by Rongai Member of Parliament Hon. Paul Chebor. The launch was attended by national and county leaders, who underscored the role of peace and unity in sustaining development.
In her address, Governor Kihika outlined ongoing and upcoming development projects in Rongai Sub-County. She noted that the county is solarizing and piping boreholes to improve access to water. In addition, Sh27 million in bursaries has been disbursed to support 4,000 students in Rongai, part of the Sh440 million issued countywide to enhance access to education. She also reaffirmed the county’s commitment to the ECDE school feeding program, which is contributing to improved enrollment in early learning centres.
On healthcare, Governor Kihika reported that construction of the Rongai Sub-County Hospital has reached 33 percent completion. Similar health infrastructure projects are ongoing in Soin and Mosop. She added that the Kamugei Water Project piping is progressing, while road rehabilitation and the construction of new markets in the sub-county will begin soon.
To promote youth empowerment, the Governor announced plans to roll out the Governor’s Cup, a program designed to nurture sports talent and promote cohesion within communities. She further expressed support for the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), describing it as essential for grassroots development.
Governor Kihika also highlighted interventions in agriculture, including the distribution of subsidized fertilizer and support for farmers in dairy, poultry, aquaculture, and artificial insemination services. These efforts align with the county’s broader agricultural development agenda.
She voiced support for national development programs championed by President William Ruto, including the Affordable Housing Program and the dualling of the Rironi–Mau Summit Road, both of which are expected to create economic opportunities for Nakuru residents.
On social health, the Governor urged residents to register under the Social Health Authority (SHA) to access healthcare services provided through Community Health Promoters (CHPs). She also welcomed the ongoing teacher recruitment drive, noting its importance in strengthening the education sector.
Governor Kihika was accompanied by Deputy Governor David Kones, Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria, Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama, Bahati MP Irene Njoki, Gilgil MP Martha Wangari, Kuresoi North MP Alfred Mutai, Njoro MP Charity Kathambi, Kuresoi South MP Joseph Tonui, Subukia MP Samuel Gachobe, and Nakuru County Women Representative Liza Chelule.
The event reinforced Governor Kihika’s development agenda by combining investments in education, health, agriculture, youth, and water infrastructure—key pillars of her manifesto.
