Nakuru County has made enhancing sanitation at all markets a top priority to better serve traders and the public. Mr. Samwel Ndegwa, the Chief Officer of Trade, handed over a state-of-the-art toilet facility to the traders at Heshima Market in Kiamaina Ward, Bahati Sub-county today. The traders praised Governor Susan Kihika for this initiative, as the sanitation facility will significantly improve hygiene standards at the market. They also noted that it would create job opportunities, especially for local youth responsible for managing the toilet and a Curio shop.
Mr. Ndegwa mentioned that this modern toilet would serve as a model for future facilities in other markets constructed by the County Government. He expressed gratitude to Nakuru Water and Sanitation Company (Nawassco) for partnering with the County Government to realize this project. Market officials were urged to ensure the proper management of the facility for the public’s benefit.
Mr. Paul Kimani, Head of Nawassco Sanitation, extended his appreciation to the County for supporting the market’s sanitation program. The project encompasses separate sections for disabled individuals, men, and ladies, a bathing area, a curio shop, a 10,000-liter septic tank, a water tank, and electricity.
Present at the event were Paul Waweru (MCA), Sarah Kangara (Ward Administrator), Peter Kang’ethe (Political Office), Collins Kiunjuri (Trade Officer), and Zaituni Kanenje (Low-Income Consumer Manager), among others.
