The Freearea Vocational Training Centre is nearing completion and is expected to serve youth from Nakuru East and surrounding areas. The final works, including the installation of washrooms, landscaping, and power connection, are underway and will soon be finalized.
The facility is part of the County Government’s plan to enhance skill development among the youth. Governor Susan Kihika’s administration is offering a Kshs. 30,000 capitation per student to reduce the financial burden of vocational training. This support aims to encourage more young people to enroll in Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) and acquire practical skills for self-reliance and job opportunities.
The Freearea Vocational Training Centre will provide courses designed to equip learners with skills that are in demand in various industries. By doing so, the facility seeks to address youth unemployment and promote economic activities in the region.
A recent inspection tour of the center was conducted to monitor the progress of the project. Trade CECM Kuria Muiruri, Sports CECM Josephine Atieno, and Chief Officers Kamau Kuria, Rosemary Kimani, and Stella Mwaura were present during the visit. City Manager Gitau Thabanja and Efficiency Monitoring Officers Francis Njoroge and Martin Gichinga also participated in the tour, reflecting the administration’s focus on ensuring project completion within set timelines.
The Freearea Vocational Training Centre is expected to play a significant role in equipping youth with skills for employment and entrepreneurship. This initiative aligns with Governor Kihika’s agenda of improving access to education and creating opportunities for youth in Nakuru County.
