Members of the National Assembly should in one accord support the gender bill that will be coming up for voting this Tuesday.
Addressing mourners who had come together to fundraise for the family of former MCA for Menengai East the late Hon Michael Macharia (Mash Dafra), Senator Susan Kijika said there was a need to give equity to women in leadership.
“Women have already proven themselves in other spheres. But the challenges of getting into political leadership locks many of them out. That’s why we need this law,” explained the senator.
At the same time, the senator has continued with her calls to have stern action taken against men impregnating school girls.
“There can be no consent where 13-year-old school girls are concerned. These men should be considered as rapists and sentenced as such,” she said.
Among other leaders who attended the function were scores of former MCAs and several current MCAs including the current area MCA.
Former Governor Kinuthia Mbugua sent his contribution through former MCA Wanyoike Wanango. He also said he might attend the funeral slated for Friday next week.
While addressing the mourners, former MCA for Biashara Ward Stephen (Mhesh) Kuria said although sometimes Mash overspent on his medical cover, the then speaker always ensured his medical needs were met.
