The M-pesa Foundation has pledged to continue supporting Bondeni Sub-County Hospital in its ambitious growth trajectory, following a recent visit where officials expressed their admiration for the hospital’s progress. The visit was marked by discussions with key health leaders, including Roselyn Mungai, the County Executive Committee Member for Health, Dr Joyce Yator, the hospital’s medical superintendent, Wendy Tirop, the County Chief Nurse, and other members of the hospital management team.

During the meeting, the focus was on the hospital’s development, particularly the recent integration of HIV services into regular outpatient care, the increased demand in the maternity department, and the forthcoming opening of a new theatre. To further solidify their commitment, the Mpesa Foundation team presented gift hampers, including baby items, to all pregnant mothers at the hospital, aligning with Governor Susan Kihika’s healthcare agenda.

After visiting the hospital, the Mpesa Foundation and County officials extended their efforts to Bondeni Primary School, where they led a tree-planting exercise. This initiative, part of the school’s green project, serves as a lasting memory of the medical camp held there and supports the broader environmental sustainability goals of the Department of Health. This includes the establishment of Governors’ Hospital Healing Gardens across various healthcare facilities in Nakuru County. Similar gardens have been established at the Nakuru County Teaching and Referral Hospital (PGH), Langa Langa, Annexe, Bondeni, Bahati, Naivasha, Molo, Njoro, Olenguruone, Mirugi Kariuki Sub County Hospitals, as well as health centres and dispensaries, including Barut, Engacura, Industrial Area, Githioro, Mithonge, Mwariki, Elementaita, and Total, amongst others.

The day’s activities culminated in a free medical camp at Bondeni Primary School, benefiting thousands of Nakuru Town residents. Organized by the Department of Health in collaboration with the Mpesa Foundation, Zuri Health, Amref, and Lions SightFirst Eye Hospital, the camp provided essential healthcare services, including outpatient care and screenings for conditions such as diabetes, cancer, hypertension, dental issues, eye care, and fistula. CEC Member for Health Rosyelyn Mungai emphasized the significance of the outreach program and urged those diagnosed to seek follow-up care at Bondeni and Langalanga Sub-County Hospitals, or Nakuru County Teaching and Referral Hospital (NCTRH). In addition, over 20 patients above the age of 40 with chronic conditions were provided with a free 3-year NHIF cover, courtesy of the Mpesa Foundation and its partners.

These successful initiatives highlight the strong and fruitful relationship between Governor Kihika’s administration and its partners, particularly the Mpesa Foundation, whose representatives, Lynda Kasina and Eunice Kibathi, played a crucial role in the day’s events. The involvement of area MCA Hon. Fadhili Msuri further demonstrated the community’s commitment to enhancing healthcare and promoting environmental sustainability, ensuring Nakuru County’s continuous progress under Governor Kihika’s leadership.
