In a milestone event for Nakuru County, construction has officially begun on the Rongai Level 4 Hospital at Salgaa Centre in Visoi Ward, Rongai Sub-county. Fully funded by the County Government of Nakuru with a budget of Kshs 250 million, the facility promises to provide vital inpatient, outpatient, and maternity services to area residents, fulfilling a long-held community need.
The construction of the hospital marks the realization of a dream for residents of Visoi and Mosop Wards, who have advocated for such a facility for nearly two decades. The new hospital is located near the Salgaa black spot which is a high-incident area for road accidents. The hospital will thus play a critical role in offering timely care to accident victims and enhancing healthcare services throughout the region.
County officials, led by Nakuru’s top leadership, expressed their commitment to fast-tracking the project.
“I have instructed the contractor to complete the hospital within the next 24 months, if not sooner,” said the Nakuru county Governor Susan Kihika at the event, emphasizing the urgency of delivering these healthcare services to the community.
The groundbreaking event also served as an opportunity to showcase other development initiatives across Visoi and Mosop Wards. These include key projects in water access, road infrastructure, education, markets, and agricultural support which are all part of the county’s ongoing commitment to improving residents’ quality of life.
Additionally, plans were announced to begin the dualling of the Rironi-Mau Summit section of the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway next year. This road upgrade aims to ease traffic congestion and reduce accidents along this heavily traveled route, further enhancing safety and connectivity in the area.
Joining the Governor at the ceremony were Deputy Governor H.E. David Kones, County Assembly Majority Leader Hon. Alex Langat, Visoi Ward MCA Hellen Chemtai, and several other county officials, including CECs, Chief Officers, and the County Secretary. Together, they emphasized a shared dedication to accelerating development and improving essential services for all residents of Nakuru County.
With construction now underway, the community eagerly anticipates the completion of the Rongai Level 4 Hospital, which will address critical healthcare needs and serve as a cornerstone of growth and wellness for the region.
