Meru County Team Benchmarks Nakuru’s One Health Approach

Nakuru County is hosting a delegation from Meru County for a benchmarking exercise on the One Health (OH) approach, a strategy that integrates human, animal, and environmental health to combat zoonotic diseases and other public health threats.

The visiting team is learning from best practices implemented through the Nakuru County One Health Unit (COHU), which focuses on prevention, surveillance, response, and control of priority zoonotic diseases such as Rabies, Anthrax, Brucellosis, and Rift Valley Fever. Additionally, the OH approach promotes applied research and enhances Event-Based Surveillance (EBS), which goes beyond zoonotic diseases to address Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), food safety, and emerging public health threats with epidemic or pandemic potential.

While welcoming the team, Nakuru’s Chief Officer for Livestock, Fisheries, and Veterinary Services, Dr. Michael Cheruiyot, highlighted the county’s commitment to strengthening the One Health initiative and fostering collaboration to improve public health outcomes.
