Catholic faithful from Nakuru County and across Kenya gathered to witness the Episcopal Consecration and installation of Monsignor Cleophas Oseso Tuka as the Fourth Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru (CDN) in Nakuru Boys High School. The colorful event marked a significant transition in the leadership of the diocese.

Bishop Oseso succeeds Most Rev. Maurice Muhatia Makumba, who was relocated to Kisumu in 2022. He takes over from the Apostolic Administrator Bishop David Kamau, who has been providing leadership in the diocese during the transitional period.

Born in Nyeri and raised in Nakuru County, Bishop Oseso brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He was ordained as a priest in 1995 and has served in various pastoral capacities, including as Parochial Vicar at St. Lwanga Parish Njoro and Holy Cross Parish Shabab, Nakuru. Additionally, he served as a Diocesan Financial Administrator and spent nine years as the director of the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru Mission office in New York City, USA.

Upon his return to Kenya, Bishop Oseso served as the Parish Priest of Mary Mother of God in Kabarnet and later as the Vicar General of the Diocese of Nakuru. He held the position of Parish Priest of St. Augustine in Bahati, Nakuru County

Bishop Oseso holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Le Moyne College (U.S.A) and a Doctorate in Education from the Graduate Theological Foundation in the United States of America. His appointment as the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru was made by Pope Francis on February 15, 2023.

The installation ceremony was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Deputy President H.E Rigathi Gachagua, Lands Cabinet Secretary Zachary Njeru, Nakuru Deputy Governor H.E David Kones, Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi, and H.E Monsignor Bert van Megen, the Pope’s representative to Kenya. Cardinal John Njue and other religious leaders also graced the event.

Political figures present included Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja, Naivasha Member of Parliament Jane Kihara, Irene Njoki MP Bahati, Kuresoi South MP Joseph Tonui, Kuresoi North MP Alfred Mutai, David Gikaria MP Nakuru East, Rongai MP Paul Chebor, Nakuru Woman Representative Lisa Chelule, alongside numerous MCAs and County Executives from Nakuru and Baringo Counties.

The Episcopal Consecration and installation marked a significant chapter in the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru, with Bishop Oseso assuming leadership with a commitment to serving the faithful and advancing the spiritual mission of the diocese.
