County Government of Nakuru continues to advance its agenda on maternal and neonatal healthcare following an inspection tour of the upcoming Mother and Baby Wing at Bahati Level 4 Hospital. The visit was led by the County Chief Officer for Infrastructure, Mr. Kennedy Mungai, and the County Director for the Efficiency and Delivery Unit, Mr. Patrick Kigunda, who were accompanied by a technical team overseeing the project.
The Mother and Baby Wing is being constructed through a partnership between the County Government of Nakuru and Kingdom Seekers Fellowship Church. The project is currently at an advanced stage of completion and is scheduled for completion by June 2026. Once operational, the facility is expected to strengthen the delivery of maternal and neonatal health services in Bahati Sub-County and surrounding areas.
The inspection focused on assessing construction progress, adherence to design specifications, and readiness for the next phases of implementation. County officials reviewed structural works, service areas, and space allocation to ensure the facility will meet the needs of mothers and newborns once commissioned. The technical team also evaluated how the new wing will integrate with existing hospital services at Bahati Level 4 Hospital.
Upon completion, the Mother and Baby Wing will provide dedicated spaces for maternity services, newborn care, and postnatal support. The facility is expected to reduce congestion in existing wards, improve access to skilled care during childbirth, and support early management of neonatal conditions. Residents of Bahati Sub-County will benefit from receiving these services closer to home, reducing the need for referrals to facilities outside the sub-county.
The project will also support improved referral pathways within Nakuru County by strengthening Bahati Level 4 Hospital as a key service point. With enhanced capacity, the hospital will be able to manage more maternal and newborn cases, easing pressure on the Nakuru County Referral and Teaching Hospital while ensuring continuity of care at the local level.
During the visit, the County Chief Officer for Infrastructure expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far. He conveyed appreciation and gratitude from H.E. Governor Susan Kihika to the leadership of Kingdom Seekers Fellowship Church for their partnership and commitment to supporting healthcare delivery in the county. He noted that collaboration with faith-based organizations remains an important approach in expanding access to essential public services.
The partnership with Kingdom Seekers Fellowship Church reflects the county’s approach to inclusive development, where government works with community and faith-based institutions to deliver shared development goals. Through this collaboration, resources, expertise, and community support have been brought together to address identified gaps in maternal and neonatal healthcare.
The construction of the Mother and Baby Wing aligns with Governor Susan Kihika’s manifesto, which places health as a key pillar of development. Under her Health Care for All agenda, the county has prioritized investments in health infrastructure, maternal health services, and the decentralization of specialized care to sub-county facilities. The Bahati project contributes directly to this commitment by expanding service capacity at a Level 4 hospital.
The initiative also supports national priorities under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) framework, which aims to ensure access to essential health services without financial strain. By improving infrastructure for maternal and neonatal care at the sub-county level, the county is contributing to equitable access and improved health outcomes.
As construction continues toward the targeted completion date of June 2026, the County Government of Nakuru remains focused on ensuring the facility meets service delivery needs and operational standards. Once completed, the Mother and Baby Wing at Bahati Level 4 Hospital is expected to play a key role in supporting safe deliveries, newborn care, and maternal health services for residents of Bahati Sub-County and neighboring communities.
