Naivasha Receives Fishing and Eco-Tourism Equipment Worth Sh.3.2 Million

Fishing and Eco-Tourism Equipment for Naivasha sub-county

Nakuru County marked World Fisheries Day with a significant boost to the local fisheries sector in Naivasha Sub-county. The county distributed 600 fishing nets to fish folk at Central Beach to enhance fish production and provided fish processing equipment, including cooler boxes, gumboots, and wheelbarrows, to the Central Beach Management Unit (BMU) to operationalize the fish market.

In addition, Levers Youth Group and Furious Youth Group each received an eco-tourism boat to explore opportunities within the blue economy. Office stationery was also handed over to the BMU to streamline its operations. These investments, valued at Sh.3.2 million, aim to increase fish production beyond last year’s 1,140 tons, which were valued at Ksh.147,429,048.

The distribution aligns with the theme of this year’s celebration, “Collaborative Governance for Blue Transformation and Sustainable Investment in Fisheries.” Agriculture CECM Leonard Bor highlighted the importance of the fisheries sector and the blue economy as pivotal drivers of sustainable economic growth and job creation in Nakuru County. He affirmed the county’s commitment to transforming the sector to benefit local communities.

The event was attended by Agriculture Chief Officer Newton Mwaura, MCAs Alex Mbugua, Francis Mungai (Malewa West), Stanley Karanja (Naivasha East), and Fisheries Director Raymond Mwangata, among others.
