Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika and H.E President William Ruto jointly inaugurated the Naivasha Municipal Modern Market in Naivasha Town, Nakuru County. This state-of-the-art market, comprised of three floors across four blocks with a vast usable space of 6,773 square meters, is set to become a bustling hub for over 600 traders.
Governor Kihika, speaking at the unveiling, highlighted the market’s features, including 89 lockable shops, 33 equipped with roller shutter doors, a cold room, and CCTV surveillance. Emphasizing the significance of this market, she noted its role in providing a lucrative platform for traders, farmers, and fishermen in Naivasha and nearby areas. The modern market, a testament to Governor Kihika’s commitment, is poised to ensure food availability and accessibility for residents and the myriad hotels in the resort town.
Beyond economic benefits, Governor Kihika outlined the broader positive impacts of the market. It is expected to generate employment, boost the local economy, enhance security, and elevate the overall hygiene and safety standards of goods and food items consumed in the town.
Expressing gratitude to the traders who vacated the site for construction, Governor Kihika assured that those traders would receive first priority in stall allocations, in alignment with earlier promises. The market infrastructure is well-supported with a 243 cubic meter water tank and a 49 cubic meter overhead tank, ensuring seamless operations.
President Ruto, echoing Governor Kihika’s enthusiasm, lauded the market’s potential to accommodate even more traders. He revealed that the National Government had allocated funds for constructing six similar markets in other municipalities within Nakuru County, including Njoro, Gilgil, Molo, Maai Mahiu, Mau Narok, and Naivasha. These markets are part of the government’s larger plan to construct 180 modern farmer markets nationwide.
President Ruto concluded by expressing gratitude to the residents of Naivasha for their support during the last election, reinforcing the shared commitment to Kenya’s progress. The Naivasha Municipal Modern Market stands as a shining example of collaborative efforts towards economic development and community welfare.
