Nakuru City’s steadfast commitment to progress and prosperity is exemplified through its pioneering initiative in developing City Vision 2050, a comprehensive roadmap for future development. This journey underscores the power of vision, strategic planning, and dedicated leadership in shaping a city that enhances the quality of life and fosters economic prosperity for all its residents.

As a trailblazer in urban planning, Nakuru City stands proud as the first urban area in Kenya to embark on the development of a city vision policy document. This groundbreaking endeavor is a testament to the city’s forward-thinking approach and its unwavering commitment to sustainable development and inclusive growth.

In a recent milestone, the city management convened a meeting with Nakuplan Consultants Limited to review the ongoing development of the policy framework. The focus was on deliberating the targeted scope of work to ensure timely completion of this monumental undertaking. Transitioning from conceptualization to inception, the project has now entered a pivotal phase of implementing a comprehensive framework that will shape the city’s trajectory for decades to come.

Aligned with the visionary manifesto and six-point urban agenda of H.E. Governor Susan Kihika, the City Vision 2050 framework is anchored on four strategic pillars: a just city, a democratic city, prosperous communities, and a resilient city. These pillars reflect the desires and aspirations of Nakuru residents, highlighting a commitment to inclusivity, equity, and sustainability.

Gitau Thabanja, the City Manager, emphasized the holistic approach underpinning the Vision 2050 policy, focusing on sustainable urbanization, justice, democracy, prosperity, and resilience. This comprehensive vision sets the stage for Nakuru City to emerge as a model of urban excellence and innovation in the years to come.

Moving forward, the next phase of the project will involve extensive stakeholder engagement to ensure broad-based participation and buy-in. This inclusive approach will include community workshops, key informant interviews with county departments and other institutions, road shows, taskforce workshops, radio shows, and focus group discussions. By soliciting input from diverse stakeholders, Nakuru City aims to incorporate the perspectives and aspirations of its residents into the fabric of City Vision 2050, ensuring that it truly reflects the collective vision for a vibrant, prosperous, and sustainable future.

As Nakuru City continues its transformative journey towards City Vision 2050, it stands poised to redefine the standards of urban development and set new benchmarks for inclusive and sustainable growth in Kenya and beyond.
