Nakuru County is making significant strides in improving rural road infrastructure under the leadership of Governor Susan Kihika. Through the Imarisha Barabara Program, the county government is implementing targeted road upgrades across all wards to enhance connectivity, improve access to essential services, and support the movement of people and goods.

The program focuses on upgrading rural roads that are critical for residents’ daily activities, including transport to schools, health facilities, markets, and workplaces. The improvements include grading, gravelling, and in some areas, compaction, ensuring roads are durable, accessible, and reliable even during the rainy seasons. This initiative is part of Governor Kihika’s broader agenda of infrastructure development aimed at promoting economic growth, social inclusion, and equitable service delivery across Nakuru County.

Recently, county officials conducted inspection tours in Bahati and Marioshoni Wards to assess the progress of ongoing works. In Bahati Ward, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Infrastructure, Eng. Michael Kamau, inspected the commencement of road works, engaging with technical teams and local leadership to ensure that the projects align with community needs. The visit provided an opportunity to review work schedules, verify adherence to construction standards, and address operational issues on the ground.

In Marioshoni Ward, Chief Officer for Infrastructure, Kennedy Mungai, led a tour to monitor the progress of grading works. Resident Engineer Wilson Maina confirmed that a total of 16 kilometres of roads have been graded under the Imarisha Barabara Program, significantly improving access for residents. The upgraded roads are expected to facilitate easier transport of agricultural produce to local markets, support small businesses, and reduce travel time for students and workers commuting to schools and workplaces.

The inspection tours were attended by local Members of County Assembly, including Hon. Grace Mwathi of Bahati Ward and Hon. Bernard Langat of Marioshoni Ward. Both MCAs expressed support for the program, highlighting that improved road networks serve as a catalyst for economic growth and social development. Residents have also welcomed the initiative, noting that the upgrades address long-standing transport challenges and provide safer, more reliable routes within their communities.

Improved roads under the Imarisha Barabara Program are expected to generate multiple benefits. For farmers, better access reduces the time and cost of transporting produce, lowers post-harvest losses, and enhances market reach. For businesses, reliable roads enable smoother supply chains and attract commercial activity to rural areas. Access to essential services, including healthcare and education, is also improved, with residents able to reach facilities more efficiently.

The program emphasizes sustainable construction practices. Roads are being graded, compacted, and prepared to withstand seasonal rainfall, reducing maintenance requirements and enhancing longevity. Technical supervision is conducted regularly to ensure compliance with standards and to deliver value for public resources. Additionally, local labor is being engaged wherever possible, creating employment opportunities and fostering community participation in infrastructure development.

The Imarisha Barabara Program demonstrates Governor Susan Kihika’s commitment to transforming rural infrastructure as outlined in her manifesto. By prioritizing access, connectivity, and economic opportunities, the county government is implementing practical solutions that directly impact the livelihoods of residents. The program is also aligned with broader development goals, including stimulating local economies, reducing isolation, and promoting equitable access to services.

Through continuous monitoring, technical support, and public engagement, the county government is ensuring that the Imarisha Barabara Program delivers on its promise of functional and reliable road networks. The improvements in Bahati and Marioshoni Wards exemplify how targeted infrastructure investments can strengthen communities, support economic growth, and enhance quality of life.

As work progresses across the county, the Imarisha Barabara Program remains a key pillar in Nakuru County’s infrastructure agenda, reflecting Governor Kihika’s dedication to delivering accessible, durable, and practical solutions for residents across all wards. Improved rural roads not only facilitate movement but also create an enabling environment for long-term growth and development throughout the county.
