The County Government of Nakuru, through the Department of Public Service Management, Disaster and Humanitarian Assistance, has begun an assessment of the damage caused during recent demonstrations in Molo Sub-county. The demonstrations resulted in the burning of County Government offices and vehicles, disrupting public service delivery in the area.

The assessment exercise was led by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Public Service Management, Disaster and Humanitarian Assistance, Jackline Osoro, who was accompanied by a delegation of County officials and members of the County Assembly Disaster Committee. The team visited the affected sites to evaluate the extent of the destruction and identify immediate recovery needs.

CECM Osoro emphasized the importance of implementing preventive and recovery measures to safeguard government facilities and maintain service continuity. She outlined key priorities including securing government premises, enhancing security systems, and fast-tracking the equipping of essential departments. These measures aim to restore public service delivery and ensure that similar incidents are mitigated in the future.

During the visit, CECM Osoro urged Molo residents to protect public property and maintain calm. She stated that the destruction of government assets delays development efforts and affects the delivery of services to the community.

County Assembly Disaster Committee Chair, Hon. Moses Koros, proposed the relocation of some government institutions to safer locations as part of long-term planning to prevent future disruptions. He also directed relevant County departments to compile and submit a list of immediate priority needs to the County Assembly within 14 days. This list will guide coordinated recovery efforts and resource allocation.

CECM Osoro reiterated Governor Susan Kihika’s commitment to addressing the concerns of Molo residents and ensuring that public services are restored promptly. She acknowledged the County Assembly, local leaders, and officials for their quick response to the crisis and pledged continued cooperation between departments to support the recovery process.

The delegation included Director of Disaster Management, Geoffrey Kioko, Disaster Officer, John Muchai, and Members of the County Assembly Disaster Committee, among others.

The County Government of Nakuru will continue to work with community leaders, security agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure the safety of government infrastructure and the uninterrupted delivery of public services.
