The Nakuru County Bursary Fund continues to provide financial assistance to students in secondary schools, colleges, vocational training centres, special needs schools, and universities. The program is aimed at ensuring learners from various backgrounds have the opportunity to pursue their studies without interruption due to school fees challenges.

One of the beneficiaries, Happiness Chepkoech, is a student at Highland University pursuing a course in Finance and Accounting. She has benefited from the County Bursary Fund since Form One. Her case reflects the role the fund plays in enabling learners to progress through different levels of education.

During the launch and distribution of bursary cheques for Kuresoi North Sub-County held at Mau Summit Secondary School, Happiness expressed appreciation to the administration of H.E. Governor Susan Kihika for the continued educational support provided to students in need. She noted that the bursary had allowed her to remain in school and focus on her studies from secondary school to university.

Speaking during the event, County Executive Committee Member for Education, Hon. Zipporah Wambui, who represented Governor Kihika, reiterated the County Government’s commitment to ensuring that no child in Nakuru is unable to access education due to lack of school fees. She stated that the bursary program remains a priority in supporting the county’s education agenda.

A total of 2,697 students from Kuresoi North Sub-County received bursary cheques worth Ksh. 17,395,855. The beneficiaries included students in day and boarding secondary schools, vocational training centres, and universities.

Also speaking at the event, County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture, Leonard Bor, and Chief Officer for Environment, Kennedy Mungai, affirmed the administration’s continued support for initiatives that contribute to the well-being of Nakuru residents, including the bursary program.

The event was attended by several leaders and stakeholders, including MCAs Wesley Langat (Nyota), Joseph Maritim (Kamara), Emmanuel Lang’at (Sirikwa), Alex Bor (Kiptororo), and Samuel Tonui (Neissuit). Other attendees included the Sub-County Administrator, Ward Administrators, National Government Administrative Officers, Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association representatives, Governor’s Coordinators, parents, teachers, and students.

The bursary distribution in Kuresoi North is part of a county-wide exercise targeting learners across all sub-counties. The initiative seeks to promote access to education, retention of learners in school, and support for students from vulnerable households in Nakuru County.
