The County Executive Committee Member for Youth, Sports, Gender, and Social Services, Josephine Atieno Achieng, took the lead in a significant initiative by distributing sports equipment at Kaptembwa Primary School in Nakuru Town West Sub-county. The event aimed to foster community engagement and empower residents, particularly in the realm of sports.
The vibrant atmosphere at Kaptembwa grounds witnessed an exciting football match between Shabana FC and Gor Mahia FC, with Gor Mahia clinching a 1-0 victory. The game brought together sports enthusiasts, showcasing the community’s passion for sports.
The distribution included football uniforms, balls, boxing bags, cones, badminton items, volleyball balls, bibs, and whistles. The beneficiaries of this initiative were the six wards in Nakuru Town West – Kaptembwa, Barut, Kapkures, London, Rhoda, and Shabab.
CECM Achieng expressed gratitude to the people of Nakuru Town West for their overwhelming support for H.E. Governor Susan Kihika during the general election. She also highlighted upcoming programs focused on empowering women through the women’s enterprise initiative and promoting youth empowerment through polytechnic education.
The event saw the presence of key figures, including Chief Officers (Youth and Sports) Alex Maina, Dr Michael Kiplang’at (Livestock and Fisheries), and MCAs Hon David Wathiai (Shabab), Hon Robert Kiplang’at (Kapkures), and Hon Barnard Kirui (Barut), as well as Hon. Francis Njoroge. Representatives from the MCA’s office in Kaptembwa, London, and Rhoda were also in attendance, alongside Sub-county administrators, Ward Administrators, FKF representatives, sports officers, and Governor’s Coordinators. Martin Gichinga represented the office of the Governor.
This initiative not only promotes sports and physical activity but also underscores the county’s commitment to community development and well-being through strategic investments in youth and sports programs.
