Nakuru County Embarks on Market Infrastructure rebirth

Traders in Gilgil Sub-county and Njoro Sub-county, Nakuru County, have reason to celebrate as the County Government launches a transformative initiative—the construction of new market sheds and stalls in key market locations. The move is set to provide much-needed relief for traders who have faced the challenges of the elements during their daily operations.

CECM for Trade Mr. Stephen Kuria expressed the significance of this project, emphasizing that the construction of these market sheds and stalls aligns with Governor Susan Kihika’s vision to create a conducive environment for traders. Once completed, these structures will shield traders from the unforgiving sun and rains, offering a more comfortable and secure space for conducting business.

In a symbolic gesture marking the commencement of the project, Mr. Kuria handed over the construction of a Mitumba shed at Gilgil Mitumba Market to the appointed contractor. Additionally, he oversaw the initiation of the proposed construction of Youth lockups in Gilgil Market, reinforcing the commitment to providing diverse and modern facilities that cater to the needs of the community.

In Njoro Sub-County, Mr. Kuria took a significant step by handing over the project to complete the long-stalled Njoro market. The completion of this market is expected to address congestion issues, providing traders and residents with a more organized and spacious marketplace. This project, long overdue according to area residents, marks a pivotal moment in realizing the promises made during the previous administration.

Accompanying Mr. Kuria were Trade Administrator Veronica Njiri, Market Superintendent Samuel Maina, Gilgil ward MCA Rose Njoroge, Njoro MCA Hezy Kariuki, site contractors, engineers, and various administrators. Their collective presence underscores the collaborative effort between local government officials, administrators, and the community to bring these vital projects to fruition.

This initiative not only addresses the immediate needs of traders but also contributes to the broader goal of enhancing economic resilience within these sub-counties. By investing in modern market infrastructure, Nakuru County aims to create vibrant economic hubs that foster growth, sustainability, and improved livelihoods for traders and the community at large.

As the construction progresses, the transformative impact of these market projects is expected to ripple through the local economies, providing a foundation for increased trade activities, job creation, and overall community development. Nakuru County’s commitment to fostering economic well-being is clearly evident in these strategic endeavors, marking a positive step towards a more prosperous and resilient future for its residents.
