The Department of Water, Environment, and Climate Change in Nakuru County is currently conducting a two-day induction workshop for ward climate change committees across Bahati and Subukia sub-counties. This initiative aims to empower committee members with the necessary knowledge and skills to address climate change challenges and implement resilience, adaptation, and mitigation strategies.
The training covers a range of topics, including updates on climate change status, the process of the FLLoCA program (Funding Locally Led Climate Action), and actions to be taken by the committees. These committees, working in collaboration with community organs and development partners, will focus on priority investment areas such as afforestation, desilting of water pans, farm ponds, and water harvesting.
Chief Officer for Environment, Energy, and Climate Change, Ken Mungai, emphasized that the committees would play a crucial role in linking the community to the County Climate Change Fund at the ward level. Additionally, they will inform communities about budget ceilings, facilitating the identification and implementation of projects within budget constraints.
The workshop was attended by representatives from various organizations, including SEAF-Kenya, ALIN, WWF, and SDI-Kenya, highlighting collaborative efforts in addressing climate change at the local level.
