In a major boost to maternal health care, 32 health facilities across Nakuru County have received Non-Pneumatic Anti-Shock Garments (NASGs) to help manage obstetric haemorrhage which is a leading cause of maternal deaths.
The NASG, donated by Dandelion Africa, is a critical tool designed to stabilize mothers experiencing excessive bleeding by reducing blood loss and improving circulation, giving healthcare providers more time for life-saving intervention.
Emergency Training for Healthcare Providers
The handover of the NASGs marked the conclusion of a five-day Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (EmONC) training, aimed at strengthening the skills of over 30 healthcare workers in handling obstetric emergencies. The participants, drawn from primary-level health facilities offering maternity services, received competency-based training to enhance their ability to manage high-risk childbirth situations.
CEC for Health, Roselyn Mungai, hailed the NASG as a game-changer in reducing maternal mortality, emphasizing that equipping healthcare providers with both skills and essential tools is crucial to saving lives.
Dandelion Africa CEO, Wendo Aszed, joined CECM Mungai in awarding certificates to the trained healthcare workers, marking the successful completion of the initiative.
Nakuru’s Commitment to Maternal and Newborn Care
The County Government of Nakuru remains committed to improving maternal and newborn health outcomes by equipping health facilities with life-saving medical innovations, strengthening the skills of healthcare workers in obstetric emergencies and partnering with organizations like Dandelion Africa to enhance service delivery.
This initiative aligns with Governor Susan Kihika’s commitment to improving healthcare services and reducing maternal mortality rates across the county.
