The County Executive for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Hon John Kihagi, attended a special meeting organized by the Gilgil Municipal Board. Chaired by Joseph Theuri, the meeting focused on capacity-building and discussions regarding the Draft Integrated Development Plan (IDeP).

This plan outlines flagship projects for implementation in the financial year 2024-2025. Following deliberations, the plan will undergo approval and adoption processes with the County Executive Committee and County Assembly.

The meeting included in-depth sessions on budgeting, financial management, public participation, and stakeholder engagement, aligning with the Urban Areas and Cities Act (UACA), Sustainable Development Goals, Kenya Vision 2030, and the Constitution of Kenya.

Hon Kihagi expressed gratitude to Governor Susan Kihika for elevating Gilgil to a municipality, ensuring it benefits from upcoming projects like the second phase of the World Bank-funded Kenya Urban Support Programme (KUSP) and Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Project (KISIP).

The Chief Officer for Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Kamau Kuria, commended board members for their integrity and community engagement, citing initiatives like the recent Zero Garbage Campaign aligned with Governor Susan Kihika’s Urban 6-point agenda. Present at the meeting were Director of Urban Development Willy Keter and Acting Board Manager Benson Kipenju.
