The County Government of Nakuru has initiated new efforts to strengthen water infrastructure by equipping and expanding clean water projects in Molo and Rongai Sub-Counties. This move is part of Governor Susan Kihika’s commitment to delivering reliable water access as outlined in her development agenda for Nakuru County.
In Elburgon Ward, the Green Valley Water Project has been officially handed over to a contractor for equipping and expansion. The works include the installation of an electric pump and the construction of a water point to serve over 300 households and Sokoro Primary School. For the school, the project means a steady water supply that will allow learners to remain focused on their education. Area MCA Hon. Mwaura Njuguna called on residents to safeguard the facility, stressing the importance of community ownership for sustainable development.
In Visoi Ward, the Tuiyobei Water Project is set to undergo equipping, solarisation, and the construction of a water kiosk. More than 2,000 residents will benefit directly from this project, gaining reliable access to a safe water source. Speaking during the site handover, Sub-County Water Officer Eng. Paul Muhuhe noted that the improved water supply would reduce the time spent searching for water, promote better hygiene, and create opportunities for economic growth in farming and livestock keeping.
The benefits of these clean water projects cut across households, schools, and the local economy. Families will save time and resources that were previously spent fetching water from distant sources. Children will enjoy better learning conditions, while communities will experience improved health outcomes through reduced cases of waterborne diseases. Reliable water also provides a foundation for small-scale irrigation, boosting food production and supporting livelihoods in Nakuru County.
These initiatives demonstrate Governor Susan Kihika’s determination to live up to her promises by investing in essential water infrastructure across the county. By prioritizing water access, her administration is addressing one of the most pressing needs of residents, particularly in rural areas.
The equipping of water projects in Molo and Rongai highlights Nakuru County’s broader vision of fostering social and economic growth through improved infrastructure. With ongoing investments in clean water, the county is building a stronger foundation for health, education, and sustainable development.
