Officials from the directorates of Livestock Production and Veterinary Services in Nakuru County embarked on a fact-finding mission to assess the status of Artificial Insemination (AI) services provided by four cooperative societies. The objective of this visit was to gather information that would pave the way for collaborations between the County Government and these cooperatives to offer subsidized AI services to farmers.
The team, comprising experts from the County’s Directorate of Livestock Production and Veterinary Services, conducted their assessments at four cooperative societies spread across different sub-counties. These cooperatives included Olenguruone Cooperative Society in Kuresoi South Subcounty, Elburgon Progressive Cooperative Society in Molo Subcounty, and Kuresoi Farmers Cooperative Society as well as Starlight Farmers Cooperative Society in Kuresoi North Subcounty.
Led by Dr. Veronicah Wanjohi, the County Director for Veterinary Services, and Virginiah Ngunjiri, the County Director for Livestock Production, the team examined the facilities, resources, and operational procedures of each cooperative. They sought to gain insights into the efficiency and effectiveness of AI services being offered, as well as the challenges faced by these cooperatives in meeting the needs of local farmers.
The findings from this fact-finding mission will serve as a foundation for identifying areas of collaboration and support between the County Government and the cooperative societies. By working together, both parties aim to enhance the accessibility and affordability of AI services for livestock farmers in Nakuru County.
The initiative underscores the County Government’s commitment to promoting livestock development and improving the livelihoods of farmers. By leveraging the existing infrastructure and expertise within cooperative societies, the County can extend the reach of vital services to rural communities, thereby empowering farmers to enhance the productivity and quality of their livestock.
Moreover, through partnerships with cooperatives, the County Government can leverage resources and expertise to implement sustainable solutions that address the specific needs and challenges faced by local farmers. This collaborative approach fosters a sense of ownership and accountability among stakeholders, leading to more effective and impactful interventions in the livestock sector.
As the County continues to explore opportunities for collaboration and innovation in livestock development, initiatives such as these demonstrate the potential for meaningful partnerships to drive positive change and sustainable growth in the agricultural sector. Through collective efforts and shared goals, Nakuru County is poised to unlock new opportunities for prosperity and resilience in its livestock industry
