Under the leadership of H.E. Governor Susan Kihika, the Nakuru County Government is actively working to improve Vocational Training Centers (VTCs) to offer efficient and innovative technical training to the youth. The implementation of the Competence-Based Education Training (CBET) curriculum in TVETs and VTCs ensures learners acquire practical skills aligned with industry needs.
Partnerships with organizations like Colleges & Institutes Canada (CICAN), the International Labor Organization (ILO), and Forum CiV aim to strengthen the capacity of trainers and enhance the implementation of CBET. The Recognition of Prior Learning program provides opportunities for individuals with technical skills developed outside formal education to acquire formal qualifications, enhancing employability and lifelong learning.
In collaboration with the International Labor Organization (ILO), the county government is training locals and students in Naivasha-Mirera and Maiella VTCs based on market demand. This program connects trainees with industries for attachments and potential employment, focusing on skills such as motor vehicle mechanics, electrical installation, welding, fashion and design, and more.
Partnerships with industry experts have enabled VTCs to train competent youths ready for the job market. The county government’s commitment to paying tuition fees ensures increased enrollment and retention rates, transforming the lives of many young people. Education Executive Member Zipporah Ngugi and Chief Officer for Education John Koech emphasize the significance of TVET institutions in shaping skills and creating employment opportunities for the youth.
