The Nakuru County Government, under the leadership of H.E. Governor Susan Kihika, has embarked on a transformative land management project aimed at securing land tenure for residents across the county. On [date], Hon. John Kihagi, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Lands and Physical Planning, hosted a consultative meeting with Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) from various wards. The meeting focused on laying the groundwork for engaging a consultant to conduct cadastral surveys in eight trading centers: Karunga, Nuthu, and North Karate in Gilgil; Mercy Njeri, Nyamamithi, and Maji tamu in Rongai; Kihingo in Njoro; and Polepole in Subukia. This initiative will prepare over 1,000 residents for the land titling process.
In addition, over 700 residents from four market centers—Sitoito in Nyota Ward, Kuresoi North Sub-County; Industrial Area in Viwandani Ward, Naivasha; Leleshwa and Kampi Somali in Gilgil Ward, Gilgil Sub-County—are set to undergo the tenure regularization process. The cadastral survey and subsequent titling will provide legal recognition of ownership, significantly reducing land disputes and providing a foundation for economic development.
During the meeting, Hon. John Kihagi emphasized the critical importance of this initiative, noting that securing land tenure is a vital step towards enhancing the economic prospects of the region. “By mitigating land disputes and providing clear land ownership, we are laying the foundation for sustainable development in Nakuru County,” he said. Hon. Kihagi also stressed that this initiative is in alignment with Governor Susan Kihika’s County Agenda, which prioritizes improving residents’ living standards through enhanced land tenure security.
Ms. Stella Mwaura, the Chief Officer for Lands and Physical Planning, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the need for full comprehension of the exercise’s objectives by all stakeholders, including MCAs. “This collaborative effort between the Lands Department and the County Assembly underscores our commitment to ensuring that the residents of Nakuru County benefit from secure land ownership, which is key to unlocking social and economic development,” she stated.
This landmark initiative is expected to bring significant benefits to the residents of the targeted areas. With secure land titles, property owners can confidently invest in their land, access credit facilities, and participate in development projects. Moreover, the initiative is anticipated to foster peace and social harmony by resolving long-standing land disputes, thereby contributing to a more prosperous and stable community.
In line with H.E. Governor Susan Kihika’s vision, this project is a significant stride towards ensuring that Nakuru County residents are well-positioned to contribute to and benefit from the county’s overall growth and development
