Nakuru County Hands Over Key Water Projects to Boost Access to Clean Water

Water project in Kikopey, Gilgil ward

The County Government of Nakuru, through the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) program, has handed over two major water projects aimed at improving access to clean and safe water for thousands of residents in the Rongai and Gilgil sub-counties.

Solai Ward – Kiametha Water Project

In Solai Ward, Rongai Sub-county, the Kiametha Water Project in Arutani will feature:

  • 4km of pipeline from the Arutani borehole to Israel, Nyandarua, Kiametha, and Barafu areas.

  • Installation of a water pump and solarization to ensure sustainability.

  • Construction of a water kiosk and a 10,000-litre water tank to enhance distribution.

Once completed, the project will provide over 3,000 residents with reliable access to clean water, a much-needed intervention for the predominantly arid area.

Gilgil Ward – Kiamaji Water Project

In Gilgil Ward, the Kiamaji Water Project is set to benefit over 2,500 residents, including learning institutions in the Kikopey area. The project includes:

  • A 3km pipeline connection from the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway to Kikopey Dispensary.

  • Improved water supply to address the persistent water shortage affecting the growing population.

The ongoing infrastructural projects align with Governor Susan Kihika’s commitment to ensuring adequate and sustainable water supply across Nakuru County.

Speaking during the handover, Chief Officer for Environment Kennedy Mungai urged residents to actively participate in managing the projects to ensure their long-term sustainability. He assured the community that the projects would be completed within the stipulated timelines with quality workmanship.

Among those present were Solai Ward MCA Nickson Murogo, Water and Environment officers, administrators, Climate Change Committee members, and Governor’s Coordinators.
