Nakuru County Leadership Assures Landowners on Draft Valuation Roll Transparency

Nakuru County Secretary, Dr. Samuel Mwaura, together with County Executive Committee Members John Kihagi (Lands) and Iribe Njogu (Finance), met with landowners from Nakuru Town East and West sub-counties at Nakuru Town Hall to address concerns about the Draft Valuation Roll. They assured residents that no changes to land rates would be made without public participation and approval.
Hon. Kihagi clarified misinformation surrounding the alleged increase in land rates, explaining that the 2017 Valuation Roll has not yet taken effect and will only be implemented following public approval.
“The Draft Valuation Roll is a legal document used to establish property values, but it does not set any rates. It simply provides land values for parcels within the county,” Kihagi explained.

Dr. Mwaura urged residents to participate in the upcoming public forums to stay informed and voice their concerns. Starting Friday, officers will be stationed in sub-counties to provide accurate information about the Valuation Roll. Dr Mwaura emphasized that the exercise aims to update property owners on key details such as market values, land area, and registered ownership.

Landowners have been allowed to raise objections concerning errors or discrepancies in the document which will be reviewed by an independent valuation tribunal.

The meeting was also attended by Chief Officer for Lands and Physical Planning, Ms. Stella Mwaura, Charles Koech, Edward Gitau, and other county staff.
