Nakuru County Moves Forward with Water Projects to Ensure Access for All

In a concerted effort to fulfill the promise of providing clean and safe water for all residents, officials from the Department of Water and Sanitation, led by CECM Dr. Nelson Maara, embarked on a comprehensive inspection tour of various water projects in Eburru Mbaruk ward, Gilgil sub-county. This initiative aligns closely with Governor Susan Kihika’s commitment to improving access to essential services across Nakuru County.

Among the projects scrutinized during the inspection were the Nderit, Kongasis, Oljorai, and Eburru water projects, each representing a crucial step towards enhancing water accessibility for communities within the region. These projects, at various stages of completion, hold immense promise for addressing water scarcity and improving the quality of life for thousands of residents.

The Nderit Water Project, boasting complete equipping and piping, awaits the final installation of a water tank. Once operational, this project is poised to benefit over 2000 residents, providing them with a reliable source of clean and affordable water.

Similarly, the Oljorai Water Project, marked by solarization, piping, and the construction of a water kiosk, is nearing completion. Upon commissioning, it is set to serve more than 3500 residents from both the lower and upper parts of Oljorai, marking a significant milestone in enhancing water access and affordability within the community.

During the inspection, Dr. Maara also assessed the progress of the Eburru Water Project, generously funded by the Electricity Generating Company KENGEN. This vital infrastructure currently serves the Eastern and Northern parts of Eburru, with plans underway to extend coverage to the Western and Southern areas following negotiations with the company.

In addition to overseeing ongoing projects, Dr. Maara reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to maintaining and enhancing existing water infrastructure. Promising repairs to the water pump at the Kongasis Water Project, which serves over 1200 households, and the implementation of piping in the lower regions of Kongasis, he underscored the county’s dedication to optimizing water distribution and accessibility for all residents.

Accompanying Dr. Maara on this crucial endeavor were key stakeholders including area MCA Michael Gathanwa, representatives from the Political Office of the Governor, Water Engineer John Maina, and Ward Administrators Joyce Nyambura and Paul Kamau. Their collective efforts symbolize a unified commitment to advancing the welfare and prosperity of Nakuru County residents through sustainable water management and infrastructure development
