Nakuru County Partners with Jacaranda Health to Revolutionize Maternal Healthcare Through Digital Innovation

Nakuru County’s Department of Health Services has forged a successful partnership with Jacaranda Health over the last three years with a mission to enhance quality maternal, neonatal and child health. The collaboration focuses on deploying affordable and scalable solutions to improve maternal health outcomes, and one of the key initiatives showcased is the SMS PROMPTS program.

Representatives from Jacaranda Health recently paid a courtesy visit to the County Executive for Health, Roselyn Mungai, to present the success and impact of the SMS PROMPTS program, currently operational in 31 public hospitals across Nakuru County. This digital platform has proven to be a game-changer, providing crucial advice and referrals for underserved mothers and babies.

The SMS PROMPTS program operates as a digital health solution, leveraging the widespread use of mobile phones to deliver timely and relevant information to expectant mothers. The platform offers personalized guidance, health tips, and reminders, contributing to improved maternal and child health outcomes. Additionally, it facilitates necessary referrals, ensuring that mothers and babies receive the care they need, especially in underserved communities.

Expressing her delight during the courtesy visit, County Executive for Health, Roselyn Mungai, highlighted the program’s alignment with Governor Susan Kihika’s vision for healthcare digitization. The success of SMS PROMPTS reflects not only the County’s commitment to leveraging innovative solutions but also the tangible impact on the ground in improving healthcare access and outcomes.

“I believe today’s engagement sets the stage for an expanded program, to scale this up and cover more facilities, as we also work to reinforce our commitment to improving the quality of maternal health in Nakuru,” remarked Roselyn Mungai. The commitment to scaling up the program underscores Nakuru County’s dedication to reaching more mothers and ensuring that every pregnancy and childbirth experience is supported by accessible and technology-driven healthcare solutions.

As Nakuru County continues to embrace digital innovations in healthcare, the collaboration with Jacaranda Health exemplifies the potential of such partnerships in addressing critical healthcare challenges. The SMS PROMPTS program stands as a testament to the positive impact that thoughtful and technology-driven interventions can have on maternal and child health, paving the way for a healthier and more resilient community.
