The County Government of Nakuru is set to enhance connectivity for its economic zones and agro-industrial parks by linking them to both the Meter Gauge Railways and the Standard Gauge Railways. This strategic move aims to streamline the movement of goods and services within Nakuru County, ultimately fostering a more conducive environment for business operations.
Highlighting the importance of transportation costs in facilitating business, Stephen Kuria, the County Trade Executive Member, emphasized the County’s commitment to collaborating with Kenya Railways (KR). The goal is to establish a logistic and commercial hub that will cater to various sectors, including transportation, agriculture, and Special Economic Zones (SEZ).
The collaboration is expected to be particularly advantageous for the County Aggregation and Industrial Park located in Njoro, which is near the Meter Gauge Railways. The County administration aims to work closely with Kenya Railways to ensure efficient transportation not only within Nakuru but also to other counties and international destinations.
In a courtesy meeting with Kenya Railways officials, Kenneth Kariuki, a Senior Engineer at Kenya Railways, expressed appreciation for the County’s proactive approach to collaboration on this initiative. Other attendees included Trade Chief Officer Samuel Ndegwa, Daniel Jaji from the Nakuru Department of Lands, Assistant Engineer KR Veronica Nyairambu, and Alessandra Liu from China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), among others.
