Nakuru County has achieved a breakthrough in resolving a 20-year land dispute affecting residents of the Banita Settlement Scheme in Soin Ward, Rongai Sub-county.

This resolution promises long-awaited title deeds to villagers from Kapsaga, Kongo Machine, Kiito, Kokwomoi, and Kimamoi A and B, providing the community with much-needed stability and security. Spearheaded by H.E. Governor Susan Kihika in collaboration with the National Government, this initiative focuses on fast-tracking land settlements and safeguarding essential public facilities within these areas.

Governor Kihika’s commitment to resolving these long-standing issues was underscored by the active involvement of Nakuru County officials, including Hon. John Kihagi the CECM for Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development, and Chief Officer Stella Mwaura. Together, they joined the Principal Secretary for Lands and Physical Planning Hon. Nixon Korir at Banita to advance the settlement process. Hon. Kihagi expressed gratitude for Governor Kihika’s continuous support, highlighting the importance of collaboration between the National and County Governments in addressing complex land issues.

To ensure transparency, committees have been established to represent each village. These committees will work with government officials to verify land claims and protect residents’ rights. These efforts also include securing essential community amenities, such as schools and markets, to benefit residents across the settlement scheme.

In attendance was County Commissioner Loyford Kibaara; CECM for Water and Environment Dr Nelson Maara, Chief Officer for ICT, e-Government, and Public Communication Catherine Changwony; Woman Representative Liza Chelule; MPs Hon. Paul Chebor (Rongai) and Hon. Alfred Mutai (Kuresoi North); and Soin MCA Hon. Dagaulle Naburuki, alongside other officials from both levels of government.
