Nakuru County Spearheads Coffee Sector Transformation that will lead to the prosperity of farmers

Leonard Bor, the County Executive for Agriculture in Nakuru County, has unveiled an ambitious plan set to reshape the fortunes of coffee farmers across the region. This initiative, which echoes the core principles outlined in Governor Susan Kihika’s manifesto, holds the promise of benefits for the local farming community.

The announcement came during an engagement session convened by the Nakuru Coffee Union, under the leadership of Chairman Peter Wanyeki. Representing over 1100 farmers across eight cooperative societies hailing from Bahati, Subukia, and Rongai sub-counties, the union stands as a formidable force advocating for the welfare and advancement of coffee growers in the region.

Speaking at the gathering, CECM Leonard Bor underscored the county’s unwavering dedication to catalyzing transformative change within the coffee industry. “Our commitment is steadfast,” Bor affirmed, “We are poised to empower our farmers, revitalize their livelihoods, and unleash the full potential of Nakuru’s coffee sector.”

Joining Bor in this discourse were figures integral to the implementation of this visionary agenda. Chief Officer for Agriculture, Newton Mwaura, emphasized the strategic importance of collaborative efforts in driving sustainable growth and innovation. “Through strategic partnerships and collective action,” Mwaura asserted, “we can harness the wealth of expertise and resources necessary to propel our coffee industry to new heights.”

Fredrick Owino, the County Director for Agriculture, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the imperative of holistic support frameworks designed to uplift farmers and enhance their resilience amidst evolving market dynamics. “Our approach is multifaceted,” Owino elucidated, “We are not merely focused on increasing yields, but also on fostering inclusive value chains and bolstering market access for our farmers.”

Integral to the realization of this transformative vision is the invaluable partnership forged with key stakeholders such as the Co-operative Bank, as exemplified by the presence of Isaac Kiptoo at the engagement session. Through strategic financial mechanisms and tailored support initiatives, stakeholders like the Co-operative Bank play a pivotal role in underpinning the success and sustainability of agricultural ventures.

As Nakuru County embarks on this journey of revitalization and empowerment, the prospects for its coffee farmers have never been brighter. With visionary leadership, unwavering dedication, and collaborative synergy, the stage is set for a future where the rich legacy of Nakuru’s coffee heritage flourishes anew, ushering in an era of prosperity and promise for generations to come
