Healthcare workers from Kuresoi North, Kuresoi South, and Molo Sub-Counties are undergoing specialized training to enhance their capacity to prevent and manage the spread of the Mpox virus. This training is a crucial step in strengthening the county’s preparedness and response mechanisms to combat infectious diseases effectively.
The training provides participants with essential knowledge about the Mpox virus, its modes of transmission, and best practices for prevention and management. Healthcare workers are also encouraged to critically assess their current infection prevention and control (IPC) practices both within healthcare facilities and at the community level. By equipping them with updated skills and information, the program aims to improve early detection, case management, and containment efforts.
During the training session in Molo, Nakuru County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health, Roselyn Mungai, visited the healthcare workers and emphasized the importance of practical implementation of the acquired knowledge. She urged participants to identify realistic and impactful interventions they could integrate into their daily work upon returning to their respective healthcare facilities.
Nakuru County has reported ten confirmed cases of Mpox, all of which have been effectively managed within local healthcare facilities. The county’s proactive approach in training healthcare professionals is expected to further strengthen response measures, enhance disease surveillance, and minimize the risk of further transmission.
In addition to the technical knowledge shared during the training, healthcare workers are being equipped with practical strategies to engage the community in prevention efforts. This includes public awareness campaigns, early case identification, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and adherence to hygiene protocols to curb the spread of the virus.
The county government remains committed to safeguarding public health through proactive measures such as continuous training and capacity building for healthcare providers. Governor Susan Kihika’s administration continues to prioritize investments in healthcare systems to ensure the well-being of Nakuru residents.
This initiative is part of the broader county strategy to enhance public health emergency preparedness and response. By empowering frontline health workers with the necessary skills and knowledge, Nakuru County is reinforcing its commitment to building a resilient healthcare system capable of managing emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases.
