Nakuru County Chief Officer for Housing and Urban Development, Kamau Kuria, accompanied by the County Project Coordinating Team (CPCT), recently paid a visit to Bondeni in Gilgil Subcounty. The purpose of this visit was to oversee the initiation of the World Bank Funded Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Project (KISIP), a transformative endeavor set to enhance the living conditions of the residents.
One of the primary objectives of the visit was to provide essential guidance to the residents for the formation of two crucial committees: the Settlement Executive Committee (SEC) and the Grievance Redress Committees (GRC). These committees are pivotal components in ensuring the seamless implementation of the tenure regularization project earmarked for Bondeni. The project encompasses significant phases such as surveying, leveling, and titling, all geared towards fostering a more organized and secure living environment.
Chief Officer Kamau Kuria, who also holds the position of CPCT chair, expressed gratitude to Governor Susan Kihika for the elevation of Gilgil to municipality status. This elevation positioned Gilgil as a prime candidate for the transformative Kisip Projects, underlining the County’s commitment to uplifting communities through strategic urban development initiatives.
During the visit, key stakeholders were present, including the National Project Coordinating Committee (NPCT). The CPCT, comprised of individuals from various county departments, such as Nakuru Municipality, Environment, Social Services, Roads and Infrastructure, Land Physical Planning, Urban Development, as well as Supply Chain and Accounting personnel, showcased a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach
The significance of the project extends beyond physical improvements. It represents a comprehensive effort to empower residents, ensuring their active involvement in decision-making through the SEC and addressing grievances through the GRC. This community-driven approach aligns with the broader goals of sustainable urban development and community well-being.
As Nakuru County takes strides towards the implementation of the KISIP in Bondeni, it marks a transformative journey that holds the promise of improved living conditions, enhanced infrastructure, and empowered communities. The collaboration between county officials, residents, and key stakeholders is a testament to the collective vision of creating sustainable urban spaces for all.
