Under the leadership of H.E. Governor Susan Kihika, Nakuru County has initiated a comprehensive solarization program for various water projects, demonstrating a commitment to reducing operational costs and making water more affordable for residents.
Margaret Kinyanjui, Chief Officer of Water and Sanitation, unveiled the solarization plan during the site handover ceremony of multiple water projects in the Bahati Sub-county. One notable project is the Githioro Water Project in Ndundori Ward, where solar panels will replace electricity-powered pumps. The transition is expected to significantly cut operational expenses, leading to a notable reduction in water bills for Nakuru residents.
In Kabatini Ward, the Limuko borehole water project was handed over to the contractor for equipment installation, featuring a pump and solar panels. This shift to solar energy aligns with the county’s strategy to implement new water projects with sustainable and cost-effective solutions.
Two boreholes in UT, Wendo Village, Kabatini Ward, and Kamiruri in Mutukanio Sub-location, Bahati ward, were also designated for drilling as part of Governor Susan Kihika’s comprehensive water agenda. The governor aims to implement over 188 water projects, addressing both stalled and new initiatives.
Local leaders, including MCAs Thuita Mwangi (Ndundori ward), Leah Wambui (Kabatini Ward), and Grace Mwathi (Bahati Ward), commended Governor Kihika for her commitment to realizing water projects that had previously faced challenges. The events were attended by Bahati Sub-County Administrator Margaret Karori and Ward administrators from Kabatini, Ndundori, and Bahati.
