The Kenya National Research Festival (KNRF) 2025 is set to make history as it heads to Nakuru County for the first time, marking a significant milestone in decentralising Kenya’s national research agenda. The event will run from August 18th to 22nd, 2025, at Egerton University’s Main Campus, Njoro.

This landmark festival, organised by the National Research Fund (NRF) in collaboration with the County Government of Nakuru and Egerton University, follows the success of its inaugural edition held in Nairobi in 2024. The 2025 edition promises to be bigger, more inclusive, and deeply rooted in the counties, aligning with the national goal of taking research and innovation to the grassroots.

The planning committee, comprising representatives from the NRF, the County Government of Nakuru, and Egerton University, met earlier today to finalise logistics and program flow for the five-day event. Organisers anticipate a vibrant turnout of researchers, innovators, scholars, policymakers, students, and entrepreneurs from across the country.

Themed “Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security: Empowering Communities through Research, Science, Technology, and Innovation,” this year’s festival seeks to unlock practical solutions to Kenya’s most pressing development challenges. Discussions will focus on research-backed strategies to enhance food production, adapt to climate change, improve nutrition, and empower rural communities.

Participants can look forward to:

  • Groundbreaking innovations and research findings

  • Exhibitions by institutions, startups, and innovators

  • Thought-provoking panel discussions and keynote speeches

  • Workshops and networking sessions for students, professionals, and community organisations

The festival also aims to highlight the vital role that research, science, and innovation play in achieving Kenya’s development goals and transforming lives at the community level.

In a statement, Nakuru County officials welcomed the opportunity to co-host the festival, describing it as a boost to the county’s growing reputation as a hub for education, innovation, and inclusive development.

“We are proud to bring this national conversation to Nakuru – a county of unlimited opportunities. This festival will not only spotlight Nakuru’s research potential but also inspire our youth and communities to embrace science and innovation,” said a representative from the planning team.

All Kenyans – whether students, academic professionals, entrepreneurs, or curious citizens – are warmly invited to attend. Entry is open and free to the public.
