The Nakuru County Government, through the Imarisha Barabara program, has commenced the dozing of 3.95 kilometers of virgin access roads in Utawala, Kiamaina Ward, Bahati Sub-county. This initiative aims to improve transportation and accessibility for residents who have faced challenges in movement and service delivery due to lack of proper road networks.
John Mwangi, a resident of the area for 12 years, noted that the newly opened roads will ease the transportation of construction materials. Previously, residents encountered difficulties in delivering materials, slowing down development projects. With better roads, construction activities are expected to increase, supporting local businesses and boosting economic growth.
Pastor Veronica Kuria emphasized the importance of the roads for expectant mothers and vulnerable groups. The improved access will make it easier for people to reach healthcare facilities, reducing delays in seeking medical services. Schools, markets, and other essential service points will also be more accessible, improving daily life for residents.
James Maina pointed out that the project will contribute to enhanced security. Previously, impassable roads limited movement, especially at night. With the opening of these roads, movement within the area will improve, and residents will feel safer commuting at different hours.
The project is expected to create job opportunities as local businesses benefit from improved connectivity. Small-scale traders will have an easier time transporting goods, and new economic activities are likely to emerge as accessibility improves. The real estate sector is also expected to grow as investors find it easier to develop properties in the area.
Through the Imarisha Barabara program, the county government continues to focus on infrastructure development, improving the livelihoods of residents and fostering sustainable growth in Nakuru County.
