Kagisho Community Borehole Water Project

More than 350 households in Kahuho, Gitangu, and Shoka villages in Murindat Ward, Gilgil Sub-county, will soon enjoy reliable access to clean water following the replacement of a pumping unit and the installation of a 5-kilometer pipeline from the Kagisho Borehole.

The project, implemented under the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) Program, was officially handed over by the Nakuru County Secretary Dr Samuel Mwaura and Chief Officer for Environment, Kennedy Mungai.

Community Ownership and Sustainable Water Management

During the handover ceremony, Kennedy Mungai emphasized the importance of community involvement in managing the water project. He urged the Ward Climate Change Planning Committee (WCCPC) and the project management committee to work closely with residents, ensuring the successful implementation and sustainability of the initiative.

Dr Mwaura called on residents to cooperate with surveyors during the pipe-laying assessment, urging those affected to relocate fences where necessary to avoid potential disruptions during future road rehabilitation projects. He also encouraged the adoption of meter-based water payments, ensuring the continuous operation and maintenance of the borehole for long-term benefits.

Other leaders Present at the Handover included Hon. Peter Njoroge the Murindat Ward MCA, Kennedy Kirwa the Environment Officer, Ward Administrator Simon Kamau Elizabeth Mbugua the Ward Coordinator.

This initiative is part of Governor Susan Kihika’s broader commitment to enhancing water access across Nakuru County, particularly in rural and semi-arid areas, through climate-resilient solutions.
