Smallholder farmers in Nakuru County are benefiting from increased productivity and improved market access through the support of the Nakuru County Potato Union. The union has been instrumental in promoting the use of certified seeds and mechanization services, enabling farmers to enhance their yields and improve the quality of their produce. This initiative aligns with Governor Susan Kihika’s commitment to strengthening cooperative movements to ensure farmers receive the necessary support to boost agricultural productivity.

During a review meeting to assess achievements and explore partnership opportunities with the county, the union highlighted its role in providing certified seeds, mechanization services, and marketing assistance. These efforts are aimed at equipping farmers with the resources and expertise needed to sustain and expand potato farming as a key economic activity in the region.

Agriculture CECM Leonard Bor reiterated the county government’s commitment to fostering the growth of cooperatives as a means of empowering farmers. He emphasized that cooperatives play a crucial role in providing financial support and essential farming inputs, thereby helping farmers scale up their activities and improve food security.

Also present at the meeting were Chief Officer for Agriculture Newton Mwaura and Director for Agriculture Charles Githiri. Their participation underscores the county government’s focus on strengthening partnerships that benefit local farmers and contribute to the broader goal of agricultural development in Nakuru County.

Through these initiatives, Governor Kihika’s administration continues to implement policies that directly benefit farmers, ensuring that they have access to modern agricultural practices and improved market linkages. The county remains committed to enhancing food production and supporting the agricultural sector as a key driver of economic growth.
