More than 35 registered groups from Rhonda Ward in Nakuru Town West Sub-county have benefited from Nakuru County’s ongoing chick distribution program, spearheaded by Governor Susan Kihika. The initiative, aimed at enhancing food security and household incomes, saw the distribution of fully vaccinated, one-month-old improved kienyeji chicks, including Kroiler and Sasso breeds. The beneficiaries also received several bags of 50kg chick mash feed.

The empowerment drive is part of Governor Kihika’s broader agenda to promote job creation, support small-scale agribusiness ventures, and encourage urban poultry farming among organized community groups.

The beneficiaries also underwent training on key poultry management practices, including vaccination schedules, drug handling, feeding routines, disease prevention, lighting requirements, and hygiene protocols to ensure the sustainability of the initiative.

The distribution was presided over by County Chief Officer for Lands and Physical Planning, Ms. Stella Mwaura, who reaffirmed the County’s commitment to grassroots economic empowerment.

Speaking during the event, Mr. Martin Gichinga, the Fund Manager for the Nakuru County Cooperative Development Revolving Fund (CDRF), encouraged local groups to formalize their registration to tap into the available empowerment opportunities, such as the Wezesha Biashara Fund.

Area MCA Hon. Macharia Gachiri, who hosted the event, pledged to organize a follow-up training session and announced a second round of chick distribution for groups that missed the first phase. He further committed to rewarding groups that maintain zero chick mortality and uphold high hygiene standards with additional chicks and feed.

This program marks yet another step in Governor Susan Kihika’s promise to deliver impactful and sustainable development at the grassroots level.
