The Lishe na Mama Uji Program is a county-wide early childhood feeding initiative introduced by H.E. Governor Susan Kihika that serves nutritious porridge (uji) in all ECDE centres across Nakuru County. Aimed at improving school access, attendance, retention, and learning concentration, the program ensures that young children receive essential nutrients to support healthy development. It addresses chronic and acute malnutrition by combating protein-energy and micronutrient deficiencies while also acting as a safety net for vulnerable families. Additionally, the initiative empowers local women who are employed as cooks, creating jobs and supporting household incomes. This integrated education-nutrition model strengthens early learning and lays the foundation for lifelong well-being.
